Crossing Borders - A School Partnership Project for Safer Internet Day February 6th, 2007

What is the Safer Internet Day Blogathon Competition? It is an annual event that begins on Safer Internet Day. It will start on February 6th, 2007. Postings on the blog start on February 1st and carry on until February 6th, when the blogathon goes live. For the following week, until February 13th, the blog is open for comments.

Who can enter? Students aged up to 18. You will need to work with a teacher and a partner school from any of the 28 following Insafe countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States of America.

What is the task? The task for participating students is to prepare awareness materials focusing on the chosen theme. During the project, you will reflect on e-privacy, netiquette or images, and look at how they work in public virtual spaces (social-networking sites). Students should be supervised and coordinated by at least one teacher per group. One school in the partnership, the "leader" school will register the team for the competition and be responsible for posting the project outcome in the blogathon. Upon registration, you will receive instructions for uploading your work to the blogathon.

How can i-SAFE help? As your students work with their partner school keep in mind that i-SAFE already has numerous student activities/lessons ready to use. We have student activity lessons for posters, brochures, public service announcements, etc. that can all be adapted for this competition. i-SAFE's service learning lessons, K-12 curriculum and certified mentor training lessons are great places to start!

Prizes 4 teams will receive prizes. There is one prize per theme and one prize for the most innovative entry. Prizes will be tailor-made to the needs of your school: hardware, software, broadband access...

Registration Pairs of schools that wish to participate to the competition have to register until November 30th 2006, by filling in the entry form available on www.saferinternet.org Remember: ALL teams participating in the contest must be registered with Insafe by their "leader" school.

Deadline Your team must register by 30th November. You can work on the project until the beginning of February 2007. You must post your project outcome on the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2007 blogathon between February 1st and 6th. The blogathon will go live on February 6th at 11.00 CET (Central European Time).
